YAEL, born Erin Yael Sharoni, is the definitive creative. A visual artist, writer, and musician, she has been creating and performing since childhood. Known publicly for her role as a national TV presenter in sports media and entertainment, she has appeared on Showtime, NBC Sports, CNBC, MTV, and CBS Sports. YAEL brings her extensive performance skills to the stage in her role as a DJ and to the pages of DJ Mag North America as Deputy Editor and writer.
A native New Yorker, YAEL’s artistic style reflects the city from which she proudly hails. Long before she was in front of the camera, she was behind the decks spinning house, techno, and progressive. She has played iconic venues and events like NYC staple Cielo and Miami’s Winter Music Conference, as well as at Burning Man.
In 2018, YAEL appeared as the opening act for Above & Beyond’s Common Ground album tour stop in Miami.
A classically trained clarinetist in her youth, YAEL performed at Carnegie Hall at the age of 13. Her love for electronic dance music took over shortly thereafter and she replaced her instrument with turntables and crates of vinyl. In 1999, she bought her first set of Technics 1200s and began DJing.
YAEL’s exposure to electronic music production came in 2001, during an internship in at Island Def Jam Records. Subsequently, she spent a summer cutting loops for a large studio in New York. She draws on those production skills nearly two decades later.
YAEL’s She Resists EP was signed by techno icon Monika Kruse to her Berlin-based Terminal M label, with a remix from Drumcode regular, Mark Reeve. The release received support from scene heavyweights like Bart Skills, Dennis Ferrer, Kaiserdisco, Jay Lumen, Matt.Joe, and Groove Armada.
